Message from our President

Carving out the future with light
We will move and reassure people around the world and never stop challenging the possibilities of light.

On November 1, 2020, we celebrated the 70th anniversary of our founding. The lifespan of companies is often said to be 30 years. We have developed and grown by providing a range of optical products for 70 years. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to customers and other stakeholders who have supported our development.

Established in 1950, Tamron has come a long way as it develops and designs lenses, and designs and manufactures other components through perseverance in its optical technology research and challenging technological innovation over the years. Tamron has created many revolutionary, original products along the way, including products that broke new ground as the first of their kind in the optics industry or in the world. The company has grown into one of the few comprehensive optical equipment manufacturers in the world equipped with global, integrated infrastructure that enables it to conduct businesses, covering R&D, planning, design, production, sales, and support. Tamron continues to provide groundbreaking products in a wide range of fields, including interchangeable lenses for DSLR and mirrorless cameras, lenses for surveillance cameras, lenses for factory automation and machine vision, lenses for vehicle-mounted cameras, lenses for drones and lenses for medical applications.

Cologne site

Tamron Europe GmbH has had its company headquarters in the cathedral city of Cologne for many years. The hub of Tamron´s European business is performed just an eyeshot away from the Fühlinger lake in northern Cologne. The spheres of activity include sales, export, marketing, service and distribution performed by appx. 40 employees.

Cologne is ideal for an internationally operating enterprise such as Tamron. Apart from the close-by international airports of Cologne-Bonn and Düsseldorf and the Japanese community in nearby Dusseldorf, it is here where the leading photographic trade fair photokina takes place every two years.

Cologne is home and a favorite photo subject at the same time: the cathedral and the Hohenzollern Bridge are often used as a photographic subject for advertising.
